In December I was given the amazing opportunity to go to New Zealand to shoot a wedding, and since I've always wanted to visit Australia I decided to make a little stop along the way. While I was there I fell totally head over heels for it, so I applied for a work visa and made the leap! I've been here about two weeks so far, and I was itching to get shooting again as soon as possible. These Kim http://www.blogger.com/profile/01662790517490828984noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175985258453021896.post-19057904973950760072012-04-06T19:25:00.004-07:002012-04-06T19:33:22.328-07:00ChelseaToday Chelsea and I went down to a skatepark under a bridge to shoot some photos and a video. Coincidentally this was where I first shot one of my first shoots ever. Chelsea's also one of the first people I ever shot, I've always kind of thought that if my photography was a person it would be her. Here's the video part of the shoot, photos to come!Kim http://www.blogger.com/profile/01662790517490828984noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175985258453021896.post-65024563696602344962012-03-15T11:50:00.001-07:002012-03-15T11:51:27.914-07:00TravisToronto's been getting some amazing sunny weather as of late, so Travis, Shawnna and I made a short film.Kim http://www.blogger.com/profile/01662790517490828984noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175985258453021896.post-49291548353685780592012-03-09T21:55:00.004-08:002012-03-09T21:58:58.478-08:00TiaI've been trying to experiment with video a bit lately, and mostly I just do behind the scenes videos but I wanted to make an actual, not behind the scenes one. For today I wanted to portray a beauty editorial but as a video, keeping the shots fairly simple and letting the movement and the make up be the focus. Shawnna and I were shooting with Tia, so I took the opportunity to film a bit then Kim http://www.blogger.com/profile/01662790517490828984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175985258453021896.post-37995110051389946092012-01-12T07:14:00.000-08:002012-01-12T07:19:21.189-08:00In BloomI had the pleasure of being feature on Benjamin Kanarek's blog earlier this month with my shoot 'In Bloom'. I love big hair with lots of volume, and red hair, and even though it's winter I keep hoping for spring. Dat give Missy(from Sutherland Models) an amazing fro and just kept building it and shaping it into different things, and Shawnna did some beautiful glossy eyes and purple lips. Shawnna wanted to do a look inspired by Alex Box, with coloured contouring and building elements to each look as we progressed. Dat had recently shown me the app 8mm, so I decided to Kim http://www.blogger.com/profile/01662790517490828984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175985258453021896.post-86976786535266012122011-10-16T06:20:00.000-07:002011-10-16T06:59:30.347-07:00Lost at SeaA few months ago I posted this photo: to my Facebook, and when amazingly talented Stef Toews asked me if I'd like to shoot something like it I jumped on the chance. We did a series as her entry to the Contessas contest(A Canadian hair competition), with a nautical/overgrown theme throughout. This was shot in the oldest brick building in Vancouver's Gastown, which is apparently haunted. I was Kim http://www.blogger.com/profile/01662790517490828984noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175985258453021896.post-74733876186779341982011-09-13T17:15:00.000-07:002011-09-13T17:31:26.553-07:00CrystalYesterday I was walking home from picking up some retro inspired swimsuits, and it was such a beautiful day out and I decided I wanted to shoot. I sent Shawnna a text message asking if she'd be in, and she replied that she was with a model we knew from Vancouver. A phone call to her agency later and we were good to go! Dat from Dat Salon had messaged me wanting to shoot too, so we got together Kim http://www.blogger.com/profile/01662790517490828984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175985258453021896.post-2275458169746871172011-09-01T09:50:00.000-07:002011-09-01T09:54:37.500-07:00I flew back to Vancouver yesterday for my workshop, and it's kind of nice to be back for a few days. The sunset flying into Vancouver was stunning, so I couldn't resist taking a few photos of it. Vancouver really is so beautiful, I tend to forget. This post is cloud overload, I'm aware but it was hard to help myself. Every time I get in an airplane I'm taken over by my childhood desire of being Kim http://www.blogger.com/profile/01662790517490828984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175985258453021896.post-46474203090247794952011-08-30T07:46:00.000-07:002011-08-30T07:52:53.514-07:00Magpie Darling
This was the last shoot I did in Vancouver, just over a month ago! Working with amazingly talented Nicolette Lang-Andersen as styling, Aaron Wozlowski doing make up, Kara Gilbertson in charge of hair and modelled by Jules Aspinall. Our inspiration was flapper/20's style(I adore this era), but with a slightly modern twist. When I was trying to find a model for this shoot no one seemed to Kim http://www.blogger.com/profile/01662790517490828984noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175985258453021896.post-29720282514020140092011-08-29T11:05:00.000-07:002011-08-29T11:12:33.243-07:00AdrienI seem to shoot at Carnivals and Fairs quite frequently, but there's just something magical about the combination of rides, fried food and bright lights. I had never shot at one at night though, and after shooting Adrien for Noir Masae's lookbook we decided we needed to shoot again. I had been meaning to go to the CNE, so things just fell into place. Fried butter is something I don't think I needKim http://www.blogger.com/profile/01662790517490828984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175985258453021896.post-4495329895516245342011-08-28T06:47:00.000-07:002011-08-28T06:54:36.639-07:00I was asked to shoot a lookbook for up and coming line Noir Masae, we ended up in Yorkville, got ready to shoot, and then it started to rain. We ended up finding this little undercover area with a giant silver pillar, and it seemed like a good spot to shoot. The silver background gave it a really clean sort of futuristic look that I liked. These are the more 'creative' photos from it, they remindKim http://www.blogger.com/profile/01662790517490828984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175985258453021896.post-20440635330869660312011-08-24T07:57:00.000-07:002011-08-24T08:03:07.691-07:00MartaFor this shoot my idea was to do something a little gothic, lots of sheer black clothes mixed with leather, and shot somewhere foresty. Finding 'forest-y' locations in Toronto wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be, this is the dog park across the street from my apartment. Climbing in trees to shoot makes for beautiful bokeh, I'd do it again any day. It was a blustery day, and this was Kim http://www.blogger.com/profile/01662790517490828984noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175985258453021896.post-18397494782523595752011-08-21T10:25:00.000-07:002011-08-21T10:29:44.501-07:00TiaMy friend Tia recently signed with Ford and moved to Toronto as well, so we decided to shoot. On the drive in from the airport I spotted this beautiful building that looked like someone had stole it from Rome and planted it beside a beach, and I finally got to shoot at it. The perfect late afternoon sun made the shoot magical.

Someone mentioned Sugar Beach to me when I first got to Toronto, and described it as 'white sand and pink umbrellas', and as soon as I heard that I knew I needed to shoot there. It's a short walk from my place, so early yesterday morning Shawnna and I walked over to shoot with Jillian. It was beautiful and empty, Kim http://www.blogger.com/profile/01662790517490828984noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175985258453021896.post-15412810911141680352011-08-17T11:25:00.000-07:002011-08-17T11:27:57.185-07:00Mouna

I'll be back to Vancouver for a few days in September and Doco Photo are holding a workshop! It's going to be focussed on how we'd do a fashion shoot from start to finish on location. It's not only for fashion photographers though, anyone is welcome and we're going to gear it more towards what you'd like to learn. We'll have professional models, make up artists and a wardrobe stylist, and we'llKim http://www.blogger.com/profile/01662790517490828984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175985258453021896.post-81237168544581846102011-08-12T06:33:00.000-07:002011-08-18T11:12:24.135-07:00Test with Maddie from Ford Models

We've been exploring our building, and we found this room/lounge which I fell in love. It reminds me of a space ship, and I figured it'd be perfect for this shoot. I'm still hunting for a good stylist to work with, so I've been styling things on my own again. H&M is my saviour.

Which is kind of nice, it gives me a chance to explore my neighbourhood for fun places to shoot, and try out new ideas. On Saturday I shot with 4 lovely girls from Annabelle Cho Model Placement, here's photos Beata's set.

Walking everywhere, the wonderful people, the amazing sunny days spent eating outside on our patio. I'm glad I never have to leave.I was so anxious to get started shooting again, the past week and a half were probably the longest I've gone in about 2 years without doing a photoshoot.Kim http://www.blogger.com/profile/01662790517490828984noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175985258453021896.post-9908189077727192362011-07-21T20:54:00.000-07:002011-07-21T21:16:15.178-07:00Into The Woods Editorial'Into the Woods' for Press Magazine's 1st IssueI've gotten a few questions about lighting for this shoot, so I'm going to try to explain that here! A few months ago Press Magazine contacted me asking if I'd like to shoot an editorial for them, and I happily agreed. I was going for a slightly darker feeling, but still natural look with lots of textures, knits, leather and neutral and dark colours.Kim http://www.blogger.com/profile/01662790517490828984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175985258453021896.post-26240391867220349462011-07-17T14:01:00.000-07:002011-07-17T14:16:59.197-07:00Moving onEver since I got into fashion photography people have told me that I'd have to leave Vancouver, and a year ago the thought terrified me. I had no clue how I would do it, where I would go, and how I would get there. Skip to a year later, and now I'm leaving to go to Toronto. It almost happened by accident, a make up artist I'm lucky enough to count as part of my team(Shawnna Downing) and I were Kim http://www.blogger.com/profile/01662790517490828984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175985258453021896.post-10071425583369119902011-05-20T10:41:00.000-07:002011-05-20T10:43:28.981-07:00A make up artist I regularly work with, Shawnna Downing, entered a contest to win a chance to shoot a cover for Faceon magazine in New York. She mentioned that photographers could enter too, and I figured why not, right? I kind of hate asking things like this, but if you could vote for me it would mean a lot! You can vote once a day if you really want to, and I would appreciate it so much! http:/Kim http://www.blogger.com/profile/01662790517490828984noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7175985258453021896.post-44677851386370603742011-05-13T15:42:00.000-07:002011-05-13T15:46:54.161-07:00JaimeA test shoot I did with Jaime the other day, we were planning on using all the cherry blossom trees that were blooming, but then it poured.
